EASY PRAWN CHOW MEIN – This dish of king prawn chow mein, a Chinese takeout classic, is wonderful. In a delectable homemade sauce, prawns (shrimp), noodles, and vegetables are stir-fried. What’s even great is that it just takes 15 minutes to prepare!
Chow mein truly translates to “stir-fried noodles” in Chinese. Stir-fried noodles with veggies like beansprouts and cabbage make up traditional chow mein. Proteins such as pork, shrimp, and tofu can be added to a chow mein stir-fry.
EASY PRAWN CHOW MEIN
INGREDIENTS NEEDED:
— 200 g King Prawns
— 300 g Egg Noodles
— One Carrot
— 4 Spring Onions
— 50 g Shredded Cabbage
— 50 g Beansprouts
— 2 Garlic Cloves
— 3 tbsp Vegetable Oil
CHOW MEIN SAUCE:
— 2 tbsp Oyster Sauce
— ½ tsp Salt
— 2 tbsp Vinegar
— 2 tbsp Dark Soy Sauce
— 1 tbsp Sesame Oil
— 1 tbsp Brown Sugar
— One tbsp Chili Sauce
MARINADE:
— 1 tsp Ginger Paste
— 1 tsp Garlic Paste
— ½ tsp Salt
— 1 tsp Black Pepper
— 1 tbsp Dark Soy Sauce
RECIPE INSTRUCTIONS:
In a mixing bowl, combine the king prawns with the marinade ingredients: garlic paste, black pepper, ginger paste, salt, and dark soy sauce. Mix until the marinade is well distributed, and the prawns are completely covered.
Set aside the prawns and cut the vegetables (carrots, garlic, cabbage, and spring onions) for subsequent use.
In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, sesame oil, chili sauce, and salt to make the chow mein sauce.
Heat the oil in a wok or frying pan over medium to high heat. Stir-fry the garlic and spring onions for 30 seconds once the oil is hot.
Stir-fry for 2 minutes with the prawns before adding the vegetables and stir-frying for another 1 to 2 minutes.
In a wok or frying pan, combine the egg noodles and stir for 1 minute. Mix in the chow mein sauce until everything is uniformly distributed.
